Artist Statement:
My work explores perception, structure, and entanglement through hybrid painting-sculpture. Using oil paint in layered cast and sculpted resin forms, I build compositions with true physical depth, allowing the image to exist not only on a surface but within form itself.
Recent work expands into braided and knotted structures, drawing from knot theory, biological folding systems, and manual ropework traditions. These forms function both as physical objects and as metaphors for emotional, social, and systemic interconnection. Structure in my work often appears to bend, soften, or distort under pressure, reflecting the instability of perception and the tension inherent in contemporary life.
By blending painting into object and embedding distortion into the material itself, I aim to create works that shift as the viewer moves, implicating the body in the act of seeing. At the center of my practice is an investigation into how we construct meaning and how closely our individual perceptions overlap.
About The Artist
Landon Carter (born 1997 - Charleston, SC) is an emerging contemporary surrealist known for his innovative use of resin layering techniques to create 3D paintings that blur the line between painting and sculpture. A self-taught artist, Landon explores the interconnectedness of life, grief, and personal expression by transforming everyday moments into extraordinary, multi-dimensional experiences. His work offers a sense of romantic escapism, inviting viewers to engage with both the depth of the medium and the themes of nature and humanity. Landon has exhibited throughout the eastern United States and the UK and is currently working out of his studio in Brooklyn, NY, while also expanding his practice into nonprofit work aimed at using art to help others process grief.
